There is a large, private patio behind the cottage. We live in the main home, and the cottage is a completely separate structure. While there are some common areas outside, we will afford you as much privacy as you desire. Florida Southern College is two blocks away, and there are quite a few places to eat and drink within a short distance. Detroit Tigers Spring Training is 10 minutes away and Sun N Fun is around 20 minutes from this location.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION * We have security cameras on the front and rear of the property for our guests as well as the protection of our properties. * You must have all guests registered. If 4 people are coming to the home then it needs to be booked for 4 guests, not 2. There is a charge of 15.00 per night per guests over 2. If the correct number of guests are entered during booking then your rate will be adjusted accordingly. By having extra guest fees after 2 we are able to keep the base rates lower. We have a zero tolerance policy for people who misrepresent the number of guests on there reservation. * There is a non refundable pet deposit $100.00 per stay. Also, if you have a pet you are responsible for any and all damages to our home. * We only allow dogs, no cats so please do not ask. Also, we have a lot of breakable items in the house so please keep that in mind. There is something for everyone and we want to make sure you have the ideal stay while you are here. Below is a list of all the fun things we have enjoyed here but don’t feel limited to these because there is always something new going on that we may have missed. If you head left on Success, in about a quarter mile you will run into Lake Hollingsworth, which is at the heart of life in Lakeland. People from all over the city come out everyday to walk, run, bike, or roller blade around the 3 mile smoothly paved Lake path. Florida Southern College is located right on the lake, with their nationally ranked ski team often practicing right on the Lake. Florida Southern is one of the best kept secrets here in Lakeland. The beautiful campus is the work of famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright, which draws people from around the world to appreciate his work. The goal of FLW’s work was to design structures that harmoniously coexisted with the natural environment around them. The effect of the work gives the viewer a comforting feeling and a true appreciation for the great architect. Florida Southern has basketball, baseball, softball, soccer, lacrosse and a bevy of other sporting events. Check the attached sports schedule and head down and catch a game. If you head right on Success, about three blocks down you will run into Lake Morton, which is smaller than Hollingsworth but has some of its own unique qualities too. Lake Morton is best known for the beautiful swans that swim in its waters. The swan is the city symbol for Lakeland and these swans are a treasured piece of Lakeland history. According to downtownLakelandfl.com, the swans first appeared in Lakeland in the 1920s as pets to local residents. By 1954, disease and alligator attacks had completely wiped out the population. Three years later, a Lakeland resident that was living abroad in England, plead with the Queen of England to donate two swans from the Thames River to help repopulate Lakeland. The Queen eventually agreed and two mute swans arrived in Lakeland. Their descendants swim in Lake Morton today. The city is very protective over the swans today, but it’s encouraged to grab some bread and go down and feed the beautiful birds. It makes for a great family activity! If you are in town from mid February to the end of March, then you are here at one of the best times to be in Lakeland. You are at the heart of Spring Training. The Detroit Tigers have called Lakeland their home every spring for the last 80 years. For great prices, you can head down to Joker Marchand stadium and catch the best baseball players in the world getting ready for the season. Attached you will find this year’s spring training schedule. While the Tigers are the closest team to the house, you are only 35 minutes from the Braves in Orlando, 30 minutes from the Yankees in Tampa, and an hour from the Phillies and Blue Jays in Clearwater. Take a couple days and do a Spring Training tour! You won’t be disappointed. If you find yourself here in the winter months you still have a few great entertainment options. The Orlando Magic’s farm team plays right down the street at the Lakeland Civic Center. The G league is filled with the NBA’s next stars and allows fans to get an up close look. If you prefer hockey, the Tampa Bay Lightning are only 30 min away at the Forum in Channelside. Depending on the game you can find tickets for as cheap as 8 dollars on Stubhub.com. Here is a list of all the local food and drink places that we have thoroughly enjoyed over the years. Silver Ring Cafe The best Cuban sandwiches are just a few blocks away in downtown. Silver ring café specializes Cubans and black beans and rice. If you get in early try the chicken and yellow rice. It’s so popular that they run out everyday around one. Subs n Such You can’t go wrong with any sandwich here. Our particular favorite is the meatball. It’s by far the best in town. Palace Pizza Located right downtown the garlic knots are a must have. Fat Jacks A little hole in the wall right on S Florida Ave. Fat Jacks offers some of the best breakfast in town. Molly Mchughs An old style Irish Pub in downtown Lakeland offers many varieties of Irish beers and lagers. Head down there have a couple pints and play a game of pool or darts. Linksters If you are looking for a popular place with a good amount of people, then this is probably it. Linksters is just around the corner from Molly’s and is the place most people finish the night at. It’s tailored to a younger crowd and can get a little boisterous. 850 It’s a little wine bar right down the street on Frank Lloyd Wright Way. On cooler nights they have several fire pits going. It’s a wonderful place for a nice relaxed evening.

Where do we start? Fantastic one of a kind historic home. Filled with architectural character and charm of 1912, named The Deen House. This home was previously featured on numerous publications, including the cover of American Bungalow Magazine. The home was designed by Guy Platt Johnson, a student of Frank Lloyd Wright, for banker Columbus W. Deen (also known for being the great-great uncle of Paula Deen) in c.1912 and according to The Ledger, legend has it that both Frank Lloyd Wright and Helen Keller stayed in the house during visits to Florida Southern College. In 2012, the current owners added to the home restoration to restore the characteristics of nineteenth-century prairie style architecture while utilizing modern updates in the main house kitchen and upstairs full baths.. The luxurious wraparound covered porch is approximately 1, 800 square. Other characteristics include many details such as stained glass windows, original pocket doors, coffered ceilings and six fireplaces, fantastic woodwork. Bedroom #1. Our goal has been to update the home with all of the modern conveniences, whilst still retaining the integrity of its original design and character. Built by its first owner, Columbus W. Deen, his family lived here until his death. Today the home is one of the finest examples of the "prairie style" of architecture extant in the city. The style is usually marked by horizontal lines, flat or hipped roofs with broad overhanging eaves, windows grouped in horizontal bands, integration with the landscape, solid construction, craftsmanship, and discipline in the use of ornament. Horizontal lines were thought to evoke and relate to the native prairie landscape. The designation “Prairie” is due to the dominant horizontal of the majority of Prairie style buildings which echoes the wide, flat, tree-less expanses of the mid-Western United States. The most famous proponent of the style, Frank Lloyd Wright, promoted an idea of "organic architecture", the primary tenet of which was that a structure should look as if it naturally grew from the site. Wright also felt that a horizontal orientation was a distinctly American design motif, in that the younger country had much more open, undeveloped land than found in most older, urbanized European nations. Frank Lloyd Wright is believed to have stayed in the home during his many visits to Florida Southern College. The Deen House is located in the heart of the Lake Morton Historic District at the corner of Success Avenue and McDonald Street. The home features bold crown moldings, restored oak paneling and wood-stained beams across coffered 11 ½ foot ceilings. Staircase is over 4 foot wide and 22 ½ foot deep in a spacious open atrium that showcases the commissioned stained-glass masterwork of the “Tree of Life” by Lakeland artist, Ken Berman. The home has 6 FIREPLACES and a powerful use of the arch as a brilliant counterstatement to the angular hallmarks of the early 20th century prairie motif. Restorations, remodeling, upgrades to the home have taken place for most of the last two decades, the home has undergone enormous restoration and repair. Come stay and experience history! Internet/Wi-Fi is provided with every stay in the Carriage house. Great views can be seen from the many windows in the Living Room A Shared Bathroom is located just off the Living Area. The Shared Bath features a Walk In Shower and special traits such as Classic Tile and Unique Cabinetry. Upstairs: As you venture upstairs in this cozy house, you'll find a Second Shared Full Bath and Two Queen Bedrooms. The Shared Full Bath features a Pedestal Sink and a Walk In Shower. The Shared Bath reflects the history of the home with Glazed Windows and Quaint Tile, Cabinets & Woodwork. Bedroom #1 - Queen Bedroom w/Pillow Top Mattress - Although the home was built in 1912, the room has a wonderful closet and beautiful windows.
